課程概述

This course bridges the gap between high school English and college English by introducing to students a wild array of topical issues and universal topics as explored by Ted talks and famous speeches. Students will enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities through in-class activities such as listening comprehension, dictation, group discussion, scripted conversation, as well as take-home assignments such as essays. Class participate is of paramount importance. Please feel encouraged to speak up and share your thoughts with your peers.

Weekly topics are selected so as to reflect the 17 goals outlined by the United Nations according to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development accessible via https://sdgs.un.org/goals. In particular, attention has been given to “No Poverty” (week 9), “Health and Well-Being” (weeks 2, 4, 5, 6, 7), “Quality Education” (weeks 10 and 12), and “Gender Equality” (week 10).

課程目標
This course aims to develop students’ critical thinking, to build up their vocabulary, to impart to students knowledge upon world issues, and to encourage them to see the beauty of inspiring speeches delivered in English.
